Welcome back to my blog! I’m thrilled to share the latest updates from iRacing, with a particular focus on the exciting new additions coming in Season 3 this June. The highlight of these updates is the confirmation of the new GT3 Mustang, which has fans eagerly anticipating its release. Let’s dive into all the major updates and what you can expect in the upcoming season.
New Additions and Key Updates
New GT3 Racecars: The biggest buzz is around the new GT3 Mustang and Corvette. These American-based racecars are set to elevate the GT3 racing category, adding more excitement and variety to the competition. The continuous expansion of the GT3 series shows iRacing’s commitment to enhancing the user experience.
Street Stock Series: Season 3 will also see the introduction of two new Street Stock bodies, including the long-awaited G body. This update is set to bring much-needed variety to the Street Stock series, which has been a staple since 2010.
Performance and Stability Improvements
GTP Wet Tires: Improvements are planned for the GTP wet tires, aiming to enhance accuracy and fix the issue of cars locking up too easily. This should make wet races more competitive and enjoyable.
Stability Enhancements: Addressing recent stability issues, iRacing is focusing on video-driver and particle-engine-related crashes. Significant resources, including collaborations with Nvidia and PopcornFX, are dedicated to resolving these problems.
New Tracks
Three new tracks are making their debut:
- Circuito de Navarra: This Spanish circuit offers beautiful landscapes and compelling racing dynamics.
- Sachsenring: A historic German track, known for its challenging layout.
- Oswego Speedway: Both dirt and pavement configurations will be available, providing diverse racing experiences.
Other Notable Updates
Rain Tires: New rain tires are being added to various models, including the Porsche 992 Cup, Mazda MX-5, the entire GT4 class, and the Ligier JS P320, ensuring better performance in wet conditions.
Graphics Engine: A new graphics engine is in development, focusing on long-term sustainability and leveraging modern GPU technology.
User Interface (UI) Updates: Significant UI improvements are coming, including an enhanced AI Single Player area, a new Driver Stats feature, and detailed lap charts and graphs. Additionally, the legacy website will transition to focus solely on account management as these UI enhancements roll out.
Clutch Variability: Enhancements to the clutch system will better simulate the variability found in real-world clutches, adding another layer of realism.
Career Mode: Progress continues on Career Mode, with the development of a save-game-like capability, promising an engaging and immersive experience.
Audio Development: The core audio tech is being re-architected to support modern features and enhance overall sound quality.
Physics Engine and Tire Model: Advancements are underway for force feedback (FFB), tire modeling, and the core physics engine, promising a more accurate and immersive driving experience.
Oval Refresh: The Oval Refresh project is progressing towards a Phase 2 release, tackling the complex dynamics of track, car, and system interactions.
Upcoming Content: Exciting content updates include the remastering of Spa and Zolder, a new Mini Stock, the Gen 4 car, and revitalized Dirt Road racing.
